Flea markets in the old town centre

Four times a year, there is a flea market all around the Cathedral and the Town Hall, with traders from all over Germany and Aachen’s neighbouring countries.
This market event has been repeatedly voted by traders and visitors alike as Germany’s most popular flea market.

European Artisan Market

When the European Artisan Market takes place, Aachen becomes a veritable hive of activity. Artisans from all over Europe converge on the city to exhibit their fantastic products and works of handicraft, made of the widest range of materials. Visitors crowd in front of the 300 stalls – fascinated grown-ups, marvelling children – the European Artisan Market is an event with appeal for everyone. That’s why about 200,000 people come to Aachen for it every year.

Every year, as Christmas approaches, the squares and alleyways around the Cathedral and the Town Hall are transformed into a fairy-tale paradise of glittering lights and sumptuous colours, festive sounds and seductive smells. The huge range on offer there – the classy and the fancy, the tasteful and the precious – makes every wish, great or small, come true. No wonder, then, that Aachen’s Christmas Market has long become an absolute must for the people of Aachen, for fans from all over Germany, as well as from England, France and the Benelux countries.
